tf movie blackout

TFTM Decepticon Blackout

Blackout was mostly a straight re-color with little to no special additions or modifications. Fully repainted from top to bottom using enamel paint, with the purpose of matching the actual color for the MH53 Pave Low helicopter, which is Testors Gunship Gray (you can see unpainted out-of-box photos of Blackout over at the Seibertron galleries!). Touched it up with custom lighter and darker shades of Gunship Gray for highlights and shading, as well as a brownish color dry-brushed on to simulate sand/dirt. This was all then sealed with a flat lacquer topcoat.

The metallic and exposed robot bits were painted with a dark gunmetal color, and dry-brushed with 2 lighter custom gunmetal coats, and then dry-brushed again over that with a regular Testors Argent/Silver. I’m almost wishing now I’d have snuck a gold or bronze color in there somewhere to break up all the monotony.

Propellors and windows were sprayed with a regular flat black paint. I made custom graphics in Photoshop by researching a few sites, and printed them up with the Testors Decal Kit - not 100% happy with how they applied but they’re ok for what they are, I suppose.

I’ve seen other customized Blackouts with added weaponry to fill him out, and had considered doing this, but in the end decided against it for “parts-formers” reasons (also laziness). Also fyi, Blackout here normally comes with the miniature Scorponok figure which resides in the back docking bay of the chopper, but mine didn’t have one so that’s why I didn’t paint him/have any pics.

Alright, I think that’s about it. Enjoy!
