Long time no update!

• So the week of the 4th ended up being a week of little work. It happened to be dr. jenny’s b-day that Wednesday, and I had a bit of scrambling to do to get that all together. Friday of course was “blow your mother effin’ figners off” day, which oddly we ended up doing nothing on - which doesn’t really explain why I didn’t get much work done I suppose. I snuck a few hours in that week, but it was literally a few. I’ve made up for it this week though, busy busy busy, and tons of inking in the can. I’ve cleared out a 7 or 8 page scene by killing all the background work, doors, desks, shadows and what not, and am only left with working out a few missing pieces and a bit of coloring special efx for the scenes. It’s basically the money-shot of the book, so getting it all to look right has been a challenge, one I’ve not yet completed. I knew what I wanted to do with these pages visually for a few years now, but now that I have them done and sitting in front of me, I’m finding getting the right look a little difficult.

That’s all a little vague I know, and once the book is out I can go into more detail about the WHY of the difficulty, but for now, just trust me - IT’S HARD!

Dabb has the script all (or almost) re-worked up to give to the letterer, which will include all the changes I’ve made visually that weren’t on script, as well as making sure all the additions we’ve both talked about and added over the years fit and aren’t redundant etc. Which is a lot of work really, considering he has a bunch of paying books that need words made on them, as well as his first script for Supernatural being done too. All that, and he’s hopping down to Sandy Eggo for a day for the nerd-prom too. He gets paid good enough for all this though, so I only have so much pity for him about any of it. Write you monkey, write!

• This week will be more inking, and more wrapping up pages. Since I gauge my workweeks lately from Tuesday to Tuesdays, aka Best Shows to Best Shows, I’ve been kinda screwed by Scharpling taking a few weeks off to deal with some stuff at the cardboard plant. So I’m going into my second week without a Best Show, and I’m hoping by the time Tornado Tommy is back on the 22nd, I’ll be mostly done with the book.

Then after that, I might be looking at a cross-country move. So this is going to be a busy month. Yay?

Aside for all that, and lots of writing for Murdershow, I’ve managed to catch a few flicks. Wall*E is probably my favorite Pixar flick to date, and it’s unfortunate that the best that movie can strive for come next Academy season is “Best Animated”, because I haven’t seen a non-animated flick this year that even comes close to topping it - and it’s not looking like there’s going to be much of one either. Except for maybe Dark Knight - but we all know comic movies, like comedies, will never win any real awards for acting or script, yeah?

Speaking of Batman, I watched the Gotham Knight dvd the other night, and then again the night after that, and might even watch it again later today. In other words, it’s surprisingly good. In the vein of the Animatrix, only you know, with a character that you can actually care about - sorry Canoe. My favorite segment in the Batman dvd is the first, especially the 3rd version of Batman - the robotic Fleischeresque one. I could watch a whole movie like that, hoo boy.

Oh yeah, and there’re only 2 more days left on my custom Grimlock - so go bid. Do it, damn you.
